Welcome to the web site of Oban Hospice Ltd.
We are a charity whose objective is to support best practice in palliative care in all care settings in Lorn and the Isles. We have been raising funds since 1997, originally with the aim of funding a hospice building in Oban, but, with advances in therapy and changes in practice over the last ten years now with much wider aims. We work with partners in NHS Highland and in Argyll and Bute Council as well as fellow Charities like MacMillan Cancer Support and Marie Curie Cancer Care. We support the work of the nurses, doctors and social services professionals and the families and carers of people needing palliative care in Lorn and the Isles.
Our current programme includes funding the Day Hospice provided by the NHS in Lorn and the Isles Hospital and funding improvements to the accommodation for relatives of patients receiving palliative care in the hospital. We are considering whether we might improve the already excellent palliative care in the community with a Hospice at Home service and are exploring the possibilities of supporting palliative care in local nursing homes.
We hope that you will find all you need to know about us in this web site and will support our work either through direct donations or by supporting the many fundraising events organised by our fundraising arm, Friends of Oban Hospice.
